I had a Motherhood session that felt like I was being invited to see a special place. These two had a secret language communicated through touches -both silly and loving, giggles and cuddles and phrases of words that had been communicated so many times before and now held special meaning. Here are a few of my favourites from our time together.
If you live in the Barrie/Innisfil area and you would like a special portrait sessions devoted to motherhood, and your special and unique relationship with your child, I would love to do a session with you. Click here and send me a note. Warmly Rae It's not an easy time in our lives but it is a Holy one. That time for caregivers when the children are small, and impossible to contain, but we try. This mama had an immense amount of work on her her hands just showing up for her photo session because..... TWINS. Watching this beautiful woman unload her kids for our session looked impossible, how do you keep the three year old safe while carrying TWO car seats from the car to inside, and wait, HOW do you carry two car seats at the same time with out just falling over. She did it though. Everyone came in safe, had full tummies and was clean and shiny. Somehow she had managed herself to be glowing with smooth and lovely hair If you are in the Innisfil or Barrie area and are trying to figure out what to ask for, or give, for Mothers Day, consider the gift of a Motherhood Photo session.

Take Care Rae Follow me on Instagram This is a topic I'm very excited to write about because its the VERY REASON photography became a fixation for me and what motivates me to keep pressing forward in the craft. Photos of us as “Mother”. I had a HORRENDOUS pregnancy. The worst - everything that could go wrong seemed to. I had a terrible pregnancy and a traumatic delivery and I gained 90 pounds in the process and spent too many days in the ER to count. I remember laying in the hospital after my baby was delivered feeling worthless. Nursing wasn’t working, my hair could not be combed out and I felt like garbage. Can I tell you the truth? People TREAT you differently when you gain weight and your hair is a mess. Not all people, but many people. You can become invisible. It was a lot of changes all at once. I remember a picture being taken of me and my new baby and someone put a blanket over my arm to hide it from the cameras view. It did not feel good. But the thing is, I was beautiful. In a way that everyone knows they are too. We all have it, that spark of visual lovely, and we know it. Because we catch it in ourselves. And of course our children see it in us. We have BEAUTY, we all do. But we don’t always feel it. And not everyone is good at handling a camera….. but EVERYONE has one. SO bad pictures are being snapped of us all the time that don’t ever catch the REAL beauty of what is before us. That beauty is not diminsihed with the rolls or wrinkles, or fitness. Its not about changing the shape of our arms and legs or bums. Its about the way the light fills your eyes when you smile. Its about the way your hair falls when you lean forward to kiss that 5 year olds nose. It's the shape you take when you throw your self into scooping up that child in your arms. Some of us may not feel beautiful most days but come on, we KNOW WE ARE. We know it. You know it.
Come on, you know its true. I’m not saying I could catch all that’s beautiful about you, how could I? Your beauty can not be contained. But I hope to catch glimpses. If you are in the Barrie or Innisfil are I hope you will contact me for a Motherhood Session. I really want to make these pictures with you. Love Rae Follow me on Instagram I got it in my head that I needed a way to do portrait sessions indoors this winter. So I set up a natural light studio space and invited a dear friend over to try the light on for size. I really love the gentle way the light washed across their faces as it flowed in the big windows, and bounced off all the soft white walls. I hope I've done this just in time to encourage people to do a session as a gift to themselves this Mother's Day, or as a pick me up for the winter "blahs". It's good to surround ourselves with images of the ones we love, and good for our little ones to have these pictures they can cherish into their old age. One day we leave our babies one way or another, but we want them always to have a sense of the way we loved them. Maybe they will need a few photos stashed in a shoe box one day to pull out and hold in their hands, to see our passion for them, a reminder of their worth and value to us. Also, they are so cute aren't they, it feels good to capture all their details, at every stage. If you're interested in booking a studio style session more information can be found here.
I'd love to see you and the ones you hold dear. Rae Follow me on Instagram This unique family session began with the heat resting thick with damp air as the sun made it's decent to the horizon. The Babies searched for pebbles on the pathway, while the older Sisters teased and giggled and showered them with affection. The light could not resist the Mother's long silky tresses, and made sure to cascade around her like a robe as she embraced each of her children with her adoring devotion. "Whenever I am away from you, the distance between us is a burdensome thing," -Christopher Poindexter "I always think of you in colors," -Christopher Poindexter "I miss you even when you are beside me," -Christopher Poindexter "The words 'I love you' could never be enough. I suppose we'll have to invent new ones." -Christopher Poindexter We put all our focus on this Mother's deep connection to her children. If you would like a similar styled Motherhood Session. I got to complete my first proper family portrait session in the balmy June weather, and even though the sun stayed stubbornly tucked behind drab clouds, (so that dusk seemed to arrive a whole lot earlier than I had hoped) there was more than enough light emanating from this family; we charged ahead. Take bread away from me, if you wish, take air away, but do not take from me your laughter. -Pablo Neruda but when your laughter enters it rises to the sky seeking me and it opens for me all the doors of life. -Pablo Neruda I was so honoured to be able to try and capture a bit of what goes on in the sacred goings on of this family. If you're in the Barrie or Innisfil Area and would like to schedule a family portrait session with me, send me note on my contact form.
-Rae "To feel the the love of people whom we love is the fire that feeds our life..." -Pablo Neruda We are weaned from our timidity In the flush of love's light we dare be brave And suddenly we see that love costs all we are and will ever be. Yet it is only love which sets us free -Maya Angelou |
